Volume 1 Parashat Bemidbar ( Numbers 1 : 1 - 4 : 20 )


בְּמִדְבַּר ― Hebrew for "in the wilderness of" [Sinai],

The parashah tells of the census and the priests' duties.



Volume 2 Parashat Naso ( Numbers 4 : 21 - 7 : 89 )


נָשֹׂא ― Hebrew for "take a census" or "lift up,"

The parashah addresses priestly duties, camp purification, restitution for wrongs committed, the wife accused of unfaithfulness (סוטה, sotah), the nazirite, the Priestly Blessing, and consecration of the Tabernacle.



Volume 3 Parashat Beha'alotekha ( Numbers 8 : 1 - 12 : 16 )


בְּהַעֲלֹתְךָ ― Hebrew for "when you step up,"

The parashah tells of the Menorah in the Tabernacle, the consecration of the Levites, the Second Passover, how a cloud and fire led the Israelites, the silver trumpets, how the Israelites set out on their journeys, the complaints of the Israelites, and how Miriam and Aaron questioned Moses.



Volume 4 Parashat Shelach ( Numbers 13 : 1 - 15 : 41 )


שְׁלַח or שְׁלַח-לְךָ ― Hebrew for "send", "send to you", or "send for yourself"

The parashah tells the story of the twelve spies sent to assess the promised land, commandments about offerings, the story of the Sabbath violator, and the commandment of the fringes (צִיצִת, tzitzit).



Volume 5 Parashat Korach ( Numbers 16 : 1 - 18 : 32 )


Hebrew: קֹרַח Qoraḥ ― the name "Korah,"

The parashah tells of Korah's failed attempt to overthrow Moses.



Volume 6 Parashat Chukkat ( Numbers 19 : 1 - 22 : 1 )


חֻקַּת ― Hebrew for "decree,"

The parashah sets out the laws of corpse contamination (tumat hamet) and purification with the water of lustration prepared with the Red Cow (פָרָה אֲדֻמָּה, parah adumah, also called the 「Red Heifer」). It also reports the deaths of Miriam and Aaron, the failure of Moses at the Waters of Meribah, and the conquest of Arad, the Amorites, and Bashan.



Volume 7 Parashat Balak ( Numbers 22 : 2 - 25 : 9 )


בָּלָק ― Hebrew for "Balak,"

In the parashah, Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, tries to hire Balaam to curse Israel, Balaam's donkey speaks to Balaam, and Balaam blesses Israel instead.



Volume 8 Parashat Pinchas ( Numbers 25 : 10 - 30 : 1 )


פִּינְחָס ― Hebrew for "Phinehas,"

The parashah tells of Phinehas's killing of a couple, ending a plague, and of the daughters of Zelophehad's successful plea for land rights.



Volume 9 Parashat Mattot ( Numbers 30 : 2 - 32 : 42 )


מַּטּוֹת ― Hebrew for "tribes",

The parashah discusses laws of vows, the destruction of Midianite towns, and negotiations of the Reubanites and Gadites to settle land outside of Israel.



Volume 10 Parashat Masei ( Numbers 33 : 1 - 36 : 13 )


מַסְעֵי― Hebrew for "journeys,"

The parashah discusses the stations of the Israelites' journeys, instructions for taking the land of Israel, cities for the Levites and refuge, and the daughters of Zelophehad.
