🔍 Summary of Parashat Beha’alotekha

“Beha’alotekha” ("When you light") encompasses key developments in the Israelite journey through the wilderness:

  1. Lighting the Menorah (8:1–4)Aaron lights the seven lamps, symbolizing divine presence and direction.

  2. Consecration of the Levites (8:5–26)The Levites are purified and appointed to serve as substitutes for Israel's firstborn.

  3. The Second Passover (9:1–14)A special provision (Pesach Sheni) allows delayed observance for the impure or absent.

  4. The Guiding Cloud (9:15–23)God's cloud leads the people, who move and camp solely by His command.

  5. Silver Trumpets (10:1–10)Trumpets are introduced for signaling assembly, movement, and celebration.

  6. First March from Sinai (10:11–36)The Israelites depart Sinai with structured order, guided by Moses and the Ark.

  7. Complaints and Judgment (11:1–35)The people’s craving leads to divine anger, quail, and plague at Kivrot Hatta’avah.

  8. Seventy Elders Appointed (11:10–30)Moses shares leadership with 70 elders empowered by God's spirit.

  9. Miriam and Aaron’s Challenge (12:1–16)Miriam is punished with tzara’at for questioning Moses' role, highlighting humility and divine authority.
