Naohiro Ishikawa — Making the Pentateuch Readable Through Manga

〈Background〉

Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan. From an early age, I developed a strong interest in the human mind and the question of how people live and grow. Over the years, I have explored and practiced approaches to self-understanding and reflection, including yoga, healing practices, and meditation.

〈Turning Point〉

In my 50s, I encountered the Pentateuch and was deeply struck by the richness of its stories and layers of wisdom.

I began to ask: “How can this vast and often challenging text become something more people can enjoy and understand—together with its historical background, relationships between characters, and geographical context?”

That question led me to start a manga adaptation project of the Pentateuch. To date, the work has reached more than 6,000 readers.

〈Creative Vision〉

To transform the Pentateuch into a story readers can truly follow—through images and narrative.

My aim is to lower the barrier to understanding by presenting the material in a structured, visual format where history, geography, and character relationships become clear and intuitive.
