English Summary: Parashat Ki Tavo (Deuteronomy 26:1 – 29:9)

Title meaning: "When you enter" – referring to Israel entering the Promised Land.

Main Contents

1. The Firstfruits Offering (Chapter 26)

When the people settle in the land and harvest their first crops, they are commanded to take the firstfruits to the place God chooses. The offerer recites a declaration of gratitude, remembering their Egyptian slavery and God's deliverance. This is not just a harvest ritual, but a public acknowledgment of God's faithfulness to His covenant.

2. Ceremony on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal (Chapter 27)

After crossing the Jordan, the tribes are to stand on two mountains:

Mount Gerizim – for pronouncing blessings for obedience.

Mount Ebal – for pronouncing curses for disobedience. This dramatic visual ceremony imprints the choice between blessing and curse on the people's minds.

3. Blessings and Curses (Chapter 28)

This chapter spells out in vivid detail the consequences of obedience and disobedience.

Blessings: Prosperity in city and country, many children and livestock, victory over enemies, rain in due season, and being established as a holy people.

Curses: Plague, drought, defeat, madness, blindness, oppression, and even extreme horrors like cannibalism during siege. The curses are longer and more graphic, emphasizing the gravity of choosing to disobey.

4. Renewal of the Covenant (Chapter 29:1–9)

Moses concludes by reminding the new generation of all God did in Egypt and the wilderness. He calls them to keep the words of the covenant so they will succeed in everything they do. This section marks a renewal of the Sinaitic Covenant for the new generation about to enter the land.

■ A Message from the Author

I poured my soul into this 54-volume series because I once struggled to read the Bible. The text alone felt distant. I realized that for the Word to reach the heart, it must first be seen by the eye.

In this New Revised Edition, my goal is to provide a "lamp" that illuminates the holy words. When you see the dust of the desert and the fire of the cloud, the Bible becomes a living experience.
